History
Hymnar is
an impressive black stallion standing at almost 16.3 hh. His beautiful face with the small ears shows clearly signs of his Arabian ancestors. Especially his gorgeous top line is always praised at inspections. A solid fundament with strong joints, straight feet and good hooves support a well proportioned body. He has an excellent temperament, loves affection and is easy to handle.
This stallion has three outstanding gaits with a gorgeous walk, an expressive trot and a well balanced canter that earned him always high marks. He is also an outstanding jumper who simply loves to jump. He was shown successfully in Germany jumping at 4' and free jumps 4'6" and higher with ease.
Under saddle Hymnar is a pleasure to ride. He is very supple and light in the contact, moves freely and with a swinging back. He is confirmed First Level Dressage and schools more advanced movements like shoulder-in and flying lead changes. Being as versatile as his bloodlines promise the handsome boy also enjoyes jumping and cross-country. His steady rhythm, auto changes and beautiful form over fences make him an asset for the hunter ring as well.
As a breeding stallion h e produces mainly black foals and all of his foals grow to become tall horses. He passes his size on to foals even of small mares. None of his get is smaller than 16.3 hh. His offspring also inherit his easy-going nature, high rideability, floating gaits and talent to jump. He always sires well put-together foals with beautiful heads and improves any mare. He is a very potent sire and usually the bred mares are in foal after the first heat.
Hymnar is approved as stud in Germany with the Zuchtverband für Deutsche Reitpferde (Breeding Association for German Sporthorses) and also approved in Canada by the Canadian Trakehner Horse Association. His inspection comments read "good upper line with good shoulder and strong barrel;. Overall modern riding horse stallion. Good Trakehner type." He scored alm,ost solidly 8's, especially for type, exterior, walk and canter.

The Trakehners are one of the oldest breeds of Warmbloods in Europe. The ancestry of the Trakehner breed can be traced back more than 400 years. The breed was one of the first ones in Europe to be developed for riding rather than for driving or pulling the plow. By crossing more refined breeds like Arabians and Thoroughbreds (racing horses) with the local heavier horses, the East Prussians created a versatile riding horse that was often used in the cavalry because of its spirit and bravery.
Today, this elegant and beautiful horse is often used to improve and refine other riding horse breeds. Trakehners first made their mark in the discipline of dressage by winning gold and silver at the 1924 Olympic Games. While they compete mainly in dressage and eventing (a combination of dressage, cross-country and stadium jumping), the great, white American Trakehner Abdullah won his 1984 Olympic gold medal in show jumping. In recent years several Trakehner horses competed again very successfully in the Olympic Games.
Hymnar's sire "Turnus" was awarded Premium Stallion status. The 16.3hh chestnut with lots of chrome was approved in 1983 with the comments of the inspection team stating that "he is a robust and dry looking stallion out of one of the best Trakehner motherlines. Elegant head with a big eye, a long and well carried neck, very good topline. Movements are very energetic and straight. The stallion is well suited for breeding sport horses." Turnus scored 8 in Temperament and character and 7's in his movements and jumping during his performance test and placed eleventh.

Hymnar's grand sire "Zauberklang" was performance tested in 1977 at Klosterhof Medingen and finished second. He also won DLG-Champion (National Agricultural Society) in Germany in 1980. "The stallion is in possession of a very high breeding-value and is an outstanding top-sire, well made in every respect; highly noble and very typy but nevertheless solid and pithy. Well balanced and very significant in all proportions; exemplary suppleness in his way of going; hardly surpassable in expression, type and overall quality' (German Trakehner Stallion Book). Zauberklang was sold to the United States where he had a very successful career in Dressage and became Champion at Devon. He produced very successful offspring and several champions. The chestnut left 4 approved sons in Germany: "Sedar" and "Enim Pascha" placed highly in Advanced Level Dressage, Jumping and Eventing, "Zenith" earned ribbons in Dressage up to the highest levels and "Turnus" had a successful career as show jumper. Zauberklang's damline goes back to the Hämelschenburger elitemare "Zauberspiel", which was well placed at DLG and Champion-mare at the Regional Broodmare Show. Her line is known for the wonderful jumpers it has produced and is a very important bloodline in Germany for the productin of jumpers.
Hymnar's dam was sired by Herbstglanz. Comparing Hymnar's and Herbstglanz's face you can easily recognize the grand father in the grand son. Both heads show clearly the Arabian influence. motherline goes back to "Komet" who was a Champion and top prize winning black stallion of particular beauty who stood as Chief Stallion at Schmoel, then went on to stand at the state-run establishment at Achselschwang in Bavaria where he contributed to the Bavarian horse breeding industry numerous premium mares and licensed stallions. A self-confident, lively and highly noble stallion, the impressive Komet possessed great body harmony and clear breed type. Komet was a great mover, demonstrating engergetic, rhythmical paces. With his valuable genes, Komet proved to be an important producer of excellent quality riding and competition horses. He has had a large impact on Trakehner breeding through his notable sons Gunnar, Herbstglanz, Hessenstein and Herbststurm.

Hymnar's pedigree combines some the most sought-after names in the modern sporthorse breeding: "Prince Conde" by the french thoroughbred "Prince Rouge xx" who introduced a superb talent for jumping into the Trakehner breed and had himself very impressive movements. You will also find the names of "Impuls", "Totilas" and "Komet" not only once in Hymnar's pedigree. "Flaneur", "Maharadscha" and "Burnus" are three more stallions which made the Trakehners what they are today.
